Thomas Hofmarcher

Dr. Thomas Hofmarcher is an expert in cancer policy and research director at the Swedish Institute for Health Economics. He conducts research on the economic burden of cancer and spearheads policy-oriented efforts to improve patient access to high-quality and cost-effective cancer care. His primary focus lies in the comparative analysis of cancer care systems, with vast experience in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America. Demonstrating the value of patient access to new cancer medicines is another key area of his work. Thomas has advised the European Commission and the OECD in their work with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, co-authored the upcoming OECD Country Cancer Profile 2025 for Sweden, and provided data to the European Cancer Inequalities Registry. He also created the basic structure and collected data for the initial version of the European Cancer Pulse.
